Season Highlights from B&H New York
2016/17 highlights include international celebrations for Steve Reich's 80th birthday this autumn and John Adams's 70th next year.
Eagerly anticipated premieres include Gruber's Piano Concerto in New York, Rouse's Organ Concerto in Philadelphia and Symphony No.5 in Dallas, works by Chapela in Mexico and a feature on Chin in Toronto. Major US premieres include MacMillan's Symphony No.4 in Pittsburgh, Holloway's Europa & the Bull in San Francisco and Jenkins's Cantata Memoria in New York.

Season Highlights from B&H London
Stage highlights in the new season include the premiere of Reich's Runner for large ensemble, choreographed by Wayne McGregor at The Royal Ballet in London, and the unveiling of Dean's new opera Hamlet at Glyndebourne.
Premieres in the concert hall include concertos by Gruber, Rouse and Simpson, orchestral works by Birtwistle, Kats-Chernin and Turnage and major choral scores by Glanert, Jenkins and MacMillan. Composers with special festival features include Reich at the Barbican in London, Adams at the Philharmonie in Paris, van der Aa at Helsinki's Musica Nova and Chin at Cologne's Acht Brücken.

First recording of David T. Little's Dog Days
The premiere recording of David T. Little's opera Dog Days is released next month as a digital album by VIA Records, featuring the original cast and the composer's Newspeak ensemble.
The dystopian opera, with libretto by Royce Vavrek, has already been hailed as a groundbreaking American classic. In addition to recent stagings in Los Angeles, Fort Worth and New York, Dog Days received two productions in Germany last season.

Latin America: Ginastera and premieres
As the world looks to Rio for the 2016 Olympics, Latin America features a host of Boosey & Hawkes performances. The Ginastera centennial continues in Brazil, Columbia and Mexico as well as Argentina, including Michael Barenboim in the Violin Concerto with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and Daniel Barenboim in Buenos Aires.
Performances in Mexico have included the new orchestral version of Paquito d'Rivera's The Elephant and the Clown last month and the autumn brings premieres of Enrico Chapela's Antikythera in Veracruz and Lunática in Mexico City.

Finnish master Rautavaara (1928-2016)
We celebrate the life and music of Einojuhani Rautavaara, the leading Finnish composer of his generation, who has died aged 87.
With an output ranging from opera to orchestral, from concertos to choral, Rautavaara was a visionary successor to Sibelius. Recent works by the composer have included the cello concerto Towards the Horizon, Into the Heart of Light for chamber orchestra and the Lorca setting Balada for choir and orchestra.

Appalachian Spring: complete orchestral version
Copland’s famous ballet Appalachian Spring is now available to orchestras in a complete full-length orchestration for the first time. The original ballet was scored for 13 instruments and until now orchestras have only been able to perform the composer's condensed suite.
The new orchestral version, commissioned by the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, has received first performances in Dallas and Baltimore alongside Martha Graham’s remarkable 1944 choreography and is now available to orchestras and ballet companies on rental from Boosey & Hawkes.

Mark Simpson's music on new NMC disc
NMC has released an all-Mark Simpson disc, Night Music, surveying his chamber and instrumental works across ten years with an outstanding list of performers including the composer himself.
BBC Music Magazine describes how "what hits home immediately in this magnificent collection is the music's individuality and strength" while Gramophone notes "this is high quality music. And in case you needed reminding, Simpson can play that clarinet too."
